Requirements

• Students seeking Lift Director registration or Master Rigger licensure must separately meet the applicable DOB certification, experience and application requirements.
Description
The 32-Hour Lift Director Course is an NYC DOB-approved training program designed for individuals responsible for planning, coordinating and overseeing lifting operations involving mobile cranes, tower cranes and derricks on New York City construction sites.
Students will study lift director responsibilities, crane and derrick safety, lift planning, site and ground conditions, load-path control, weather warnings, communication, coordination of site personnel, required meetings, inspections and documentation. Training includes reviews of applicable OSHA standards, NYC Construction Code requirements and construction incident case studies.
This course is intended for individuals pursuing NYC DOB Lift Director registration and eligible applicants seeking to satisfy the Lift Director training requirement for a Master Rigger license.
IMPORTANT NOTES
• 32 instructional hours, excluding breaks and meals.
• In-person, instructor-led training with demonstrations and a required written examination.
• A single session may not exceed 9½ hours, including breaks and meals.
• NYC DOB permits a maximum class size of 40 trainees.
• The course must be delivered in English for license or registration qualification.
• Successful completion is a training prerequisite for Lift Director registration and Master Rigger licensure, but does not independently grant either credential.
• Master Rigger applicants must satisfy the applicable completion-date, certification, experience and other licensing requirements.

UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION
Students who successfully complete the course and pass the required written examination will receive a 32-Hour Lift Director course completion certificate or certificate card, as applicable under DOB requirements. Eligible students may use this documentation toward Lift Director registration or Master Rigger licensure, subject to the additional certification, experience and application requirements.
IN-PERSON TRAINING
This course is conducted in person through scheduled instructor-led lectures, discussions and demonstrations. Students must attend all 32 instructional hours, participate in required activities and pass the written examination. This offering is not self-paced or on-demand.
